misc november update

ive been up to a few small but interesting things this month, and ive been missing blogging, so i figured id just write a general post about everything im up to!

smash chibi

smash is the regional anime convention around our area, and i always love it for its large (and expanding!) artist alley. for the first time they announced their additional event of the year, smash chibi, and i ended up snagging a last minute ticket.

it was a pretty standard artist alley but i love artist alleys. i also had a lot of fun going around seeing queer people, getting complimented on wearing queer clothes, and helping with my friends cosplay on the day! i want to cosplay again too, but ill have to get my shit together before the next con...

thinkpad upgrades

i love my thinkpad T61 and have been using it as my torrent client mostly, but lately parts of it have been showing some age, notably some rattling in the fan that i couldn't resolve by cleaning or oiling (likely the bearings?). i decided to commit to a full upgrade of the components, including:

  • replacing the fan assembly
  • upgrading the cpu (core 2 duo T7300 to core 2 duo T9300), as this generation of thinkpads still had socketable cpus compatible within the core 2 series
  • upgrading the memory
  • changing the battery
  • general maintenance, repasting and dust cleanup
  • installing lmde 7

its feeling very spiffy and modern, and i still love typing on the keyboard. surprisingly, replacing the fan was the hardest part of this upgrade, the new fan assembly they shipped had some weird tolerances that made it hard to fit against the existing heatsink assembly, i had to superglue some cut cardboard and do some sketchy bending to make it work without throwing the infamous fan error. i think next time ill just replace the whole heatsink assembly, but id love to try my hand at a frankenpad too

other stuff

my birthday was last month! i had a lovely little picnic with friends and i made them all decorate toploaders and bring plushies which was very fun.

ive been working on some surprisingly fun and catch-free(ethical) projects at work that are taking me to fun places out of state, so ill probably be very tired, but im pretty chuffed about it. one of the parts of these involves an aurora shader written in glsl and threejs, ive embeded it below :3

ive been playing gogh , a cute little productivity/afk game where you can hang out with friends in rooms you can decorate. its a little rough but its being actively developed and i love the idea of it alot, ive been playing it in my free time and running it during work too, it also has task list and pomodoro timer features too if youre into that

that's basically what ive been up to! i want to do more of these random updates when i feel up for it, blogging is fun and having something to show for what i get up to is nice
